Weekend Getaway . . .

When you live in a vacation destination it is hard to think of somewhere to vacation! Aaron and I packed the truck with camping gear and headed for the hills. The campground was only 45 minutes away. Casper's Wilderness Park! The website shows green pasture camping . . . but what we actually camped in is just begging for a forest fire! When we entered the park they actually handed us a flier for "What to do if you encounter a Mountain Lion during your Stay." ( DO NOT RUN!) The park is also home to tarantulas & rattle snakes! California camping is just like California housing developments . . . everyone is stacked on top of each other. We actually left our assigned spot and picked a spot right on the edge of the wilderness. (So that the mountain lions could find us easier!)

Our friends Aaron and Lindsay Evans met up with us for the evening. The Aaron's made a Dutch Oven Apple Cobbler, Ashton helped everyone make S'Mores, we played Cranium, Aaron and Ashton played their guitars, and we enjoyed the stars!

The sun woke us up at 6:30am, we were sweating in our tent by 7am! We explored the park, which actually has a great wilderness center, played in the playground and hiked around!

Ashton entertained himself by throwing rocks, running through the dead leaves, checking out all the bugs, and he had a great time in the wilderness center looking at the coyotes, cougars, birds, and amphibians on display. But we were all glad to come home and sleep in our soft beds!
