This Is the Place

Aaron had Monday off to celebrate the 4th of July. We decided to go explore the This Is the Place State Park. We hadn't been there for years but had low expectations. It was awesome! They have moved so many pioneer homes and buildings from all over Utah to this one location and built a little town. We panned for gold in a little stream and each person was allowed one little nugget of gold. We traded our gold in at the bank for taffy. We went to school together in an old school house where our teacher taught us the Deseret Alphabet. (I didn't even know that existed.) We had potato sack races and played other pioneer games. We toured several pioneer homes. Several of them were smaller than Ashton's room and housed a family of 9! They had fun crafts at a few of the buildings, Farr Icecream to keep us cool, and we watched kids ride sheep (mutton bustin') at the farm.

We stayed a lot longer than we anticipated and still didn't see everything. Ashton was amazed at how little the kids had to play with and how little they had. I will definitely take him back there again when he can appreciate everything even more!
