School's out for the summer! Ashton came home with a shiny gold metal called The Distinguished Dragon Award. Each grade sets goals for their students to achieve during the year working them toward this award. Ashton had to memorize his address and phone number, work on handwriting, visit the elderly in the nursing home, complete two science projects, know all the sounds of the alphabet, write numbers to 100, have no more than 5 absenses, returned at least 90% of homework, participate in Reflections, and read a certain amount of hours. Way to go bud!
Draper Elementary throws a great carnival on the last day of school. Ashton had a blast on all the slides and bounce houses.
A new game that he discovered was tether ball. He had never seen this before. I showed him how to play with his buddy Zach. The concept of a ball being tethered to a pole by a rope really blew his mind. It was taking Ashton longer than his buddy to get how to time hitting the ball and he was getting frustrated. He was complaining that Zach was doing better. I said, "Yes, you're right. Zach IS picking this up faster than you are, but keep practicing and you'll get it! You don't always have to be the best at everything!"
Ashton's reply left me in tears laughing. He said, "Mom, that hurt my feelings . . . . . YOU. ARE. NOT. SKINNY!"
Well, he showed me! After I started laughing, thankfully he did too and we had a great rest of the day!
